  • First startup of my 03 r1 with a turbo setup I made, uses the td04l-13t turbo off of a subaru wrx. Modified injectors, but one of them was not firing, hence the weird 3 cylinder sound.

    Build list:

    Running on E85, non-intercooled.

    -TD04L-13T turbo from 2002 Subaru WRX, usually around $100 used

    -Walbro GSL392 inline fuel pump

    -Modded stock injectors CDH210

    -Summit Racing 30-100 psi fuel pressure reg, rising rate 1:1

    -Custom, return style, fuel system made from 316L stainless hoses and fittings, uses stock fuel rail. All -6AN lines. 100 micron filter pre pump. 55 psi base pressure.

    -Handmade airbox plenum with velocity stacks inside drilled and tapped to accept stock air temp sensor.

    -All boost/vac lines go into a small balance tube i made, then out into stuff like BOV, wastegate, gauges etc, it really smooths out the signal along with restrictors.

    -Handmade log style turbo manifold with external wastegate.

    -TiAl 38mm external wastegate recirculated into 3″ outlet dumped out the side of the bike.

    -Barnett coil spring clutch conversion with custom clutch springs
    -Kevlar clutch kit

    -Marine fuel pump for turbo oil scavenge pump can be found on Ebay for $90, brass gear driven. All -6AN stainless return lines going into the timing cover plug that is plastic, has been tapped for NPT.

    -Generic turbo oil feed kit with -4AN line and a 1.5mm restrictor.

    -PC5 with autotune wideband, ignition module, POD-300 for display and data logging, homemade quickshifter made from a spare rear brake light switch lol.

    -One step colder spark plugs for safety.

    -APE manual cam chain tensioner.

    -All cold side piping is just generic silicon couplers and a 90* stainless elbow

    -HKS SSQV blow off valve

    -All exhaust stuff wrapped in lava wrap, all fuel lines wrapped in special kevlar heat wrap and reflective material to keep heat out.

    -Generic 3 bar MAP sensor wired into the PC5, stock MAP still hooked up with 2 one way bleeders so it sees vac but no boost.

    -All street tuned by myself. -1* timing at 5psi up to 9psi then -2* up to 12 and -3* above that for safety being non intercooled, but the alcohol in E85 helps a lot.

    Low boost 7psi, high 11psi. Most you can run with the WRX turbo on this bike is 13psi before it chokes on airflow. Should be topping out around 270whp or slightly more if on E85 with that turbo, similar in size to a T28.
