DIY Radiator Cover: How to Measure, Construct and Finish A Radiator Cover – Quick and Easy!
Radiators can be ugly and troublesome. To keep them out of sight and get a useful shelf along the way, watch this video to learn how to build a DIY radiator cover that’s cheap without looking cheap.
In this video, you’ll learn: (i) how to construct a plywood radiator cover, (ii) assemble the pieces from a ‘cut list,’ (iii) how to cut the edges to match your floor molding along the baseboard radiators hide, and (iv) how to create a smooth, useful radiator top for additional, level storage.
Here’s the step by step guide:
Step 1: Measure your radiator to find the correct dimensions for your plywood cut list. Include the steam valve and pipe within the dimensions. Then go purchase plywood and have it cut into the required sizes.
Step 2: Cut the front of your wooden cover to have a hole for the radiator grille. This is where decorative metal sheeting will go, as you don’t want wood to encase the entirety of your metal radiator.
Step 3: An important step in how to make radiator covers to is cut the edges correctly so it will fit snugly against the wall and floor. You can do this by tracing your baseboard or floor molding pattern.
Step 4: How to Assemble Your Radiator Cover: Watch the video to learn how to precisely secure, arrange, and screw together each of your seven pieces.
Step 5: On the inside of the front piece, place a section of alumnium screening and secure it with staples. This will let warmed air flow into the room while keeping the radiator looking nice.
Step Six: Place the radiator cover, with adjustable feet if you like, and ensure the radiator cover is centered so it doesn’t touch the radiator. If you have children or pets, you may also want to secure the radiator cabinet to the wall itself. And then you’re all done!
