I kind of need some help with this one. I’ve been told different things on how to fix rusted steam boiler pipes but I would like to get some more advice. Basically this is the situation. These are black pipes (steel) that are attached to my steam boiler. They are the return pipes and are lower than the boiler. I was told since it’s the return pipes I can swap them out for copper. All I would have to do is:

    1) Cut the rusted pipes from the joints
    2) attach brass connectors to the joints to avoid corrosion
    3) connect copper pipes to the brass
    4) I don’t have to pitch the new pipes since the pipes will be below the boiler. If the pipes were above the boiler then I would have to worry about pitching it.
    5) and that’s it.

It sounds easy enough but someone also told me I don’t need the brass, and another person told me that I could use steel pipes instead of copper. I don’t know which is the best approach for this. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I’m glad you can make it. Here are the places you can find me:
