YouTube Video Index — A list of all of my videos: https://poolmandave.blogspot.com/2014/03/swimming-pool-tips-reviews-how-to-video.html

In this video I show you how to install a Polaris 280, 380 and 480 Pro. The installation is identical in the Polaris 280 and 380. The 480 Pro is almost the same with two exceptions: You don’t cut the lead hose on the 480 Pro (there is also one extra float on the lead hose) and the wheel RPM needs to be between 32 & 36. Other than that the installation is the same.

The Polaris 280 is shown here and it is my favorite of the Polaris types. I like the 280 because it works off of the original Polaris 180 design – a simple metal drive shaft propels the cleaner. This drive shaft is durable and long lasting. The Polaris 280 is any easy cleaner to work on also. The bearings are accessible and all the parts are easy to get to. The 360 uses a band to propel the cleaner which is good, but it wears out faster. The bearings can also be harder to change in this cleaner. The 480 Pro uses a chain to drive the cleaner and the bearings are not as easy to change.

So if you are purchasing a new Polaris the 280 is your best bet in my opinion. If you have a Fiberglass or Tile pool with slick walls you might want to go with the 380 or 480 and add special PosiTrax tires for better grip and maneuverability. These special tires do not fit the Polaris 280.

The video covers everything you need to set up your cleaner properly. The great thing about these cleaners is they last pretty much forever, you will just need to change parts along the way. Typically you will only need to run it one or two hours each day as it cleans the pool spectacularly well. That is also why the cleaner last so long. If you are worried about energy cost of running two pumps, simply reduce your regular pool pump down by one or two hours and the cost will be the same. Just make sure both pumps are running at the same time otherwise you will burn out the Polaris pump. But if your pool is set for six hours, take it down to four hours when you are running a Polaris cleaner and the booster pump cost will be a non-issue.

So for the Polaris 280 and 380 you cut the Lead hose to match the pool depth. If your pool is deeper than 10 ft don’t cut the lead hose. After adjusting the Lead Hose stretch the cleaner out from the wall connection to the furthest part of the pool. It should stick out by 6 inches or be short by 6 inches.
