    SCP-914 is a large clockwork device weighing several tons and covering an area of eighteen square meters, consisting of screw drives, belts, pulleys, gears, springs and other clockwork. It is incredibly complex, consisting of over eight million moving parts comprised mostly of tin and copper, with some wooden and cloth items observed. Observation and probing have showed no electronic assemblies or any form of power other than the “Mainspring” under the “Selection Panel”.

Flow control valves are common in pneumatic systems and make for easy adjustment to cylinder or motor velocity. Pneumatic directional valves are available in many sizes, styles and configurations. At the basic end of the spectrum is the simple check valve, which allows free flow in one direction and prevents flow in the reverse direction. As directional valves grow in complexity, they are specified by the number of positional envelopes of the valve and its number of work ports. Poppet valves are simple, using a spring to push a face of the poppet down on its seat. Construction can be metal-to-metal, rubber-to-metal or even with diaphragms. Spool valves use a notched metal cylinder that slides within a precisely machined body, drilled with three to five ports, or even seven ports if the valve is pilot operated.

    Pressure relief valves control pressure at their inlet port by exhausting pressure to atmosphere. They are used only in receivers or air storage devices, such as accumulators, to prevent excessive pressurization. They are often called safety valves and are not typically appropriate for use anywhere but the air preparation stage.

    Pressure regulators limit pressure downstream of the unit by blocking pressure upstream at the inlet. They are used in the air preparation stage, as well as in control of cylinders and motors. They can be had as stand-alone units, but sometimes a filter or lubricator is attached.

    Flow control valves are common in pneumatic systems. Most circuits apply them to make for easy adjustment to cylinder or motor velocity. These simple designs can be used as a variable restriction, which is often referred to as a needle or choke valve. Or, they can introduce a check valve, which allows free flow in one direction, and restriction in the opposing direction.

    Pneumatic directional valves are available in many sizes, styles and configurations. At the basic end of the spectrum is the simple check valve, which allows free flow in one direction and prevents flow in the reverse direction.

    As directional valves grow in complexity, they are specified by the number of positional envelopes of the valve and its number of work ports. The most common configurations seen in pneumatics are 5/3, 5/2, 4/2, 3/2 and sometimes 2/2 valves.
